His figurative sculptures show that he is faithful to the basic spatial concepts while he interprets the natural world with a twist. Hartman's whimsical creatures reflect a magical interpretation of the natural world, invoking both amusement and endearment in the depiction of human nature or the furry and feathered friends. Jaap Hartman finds inspiration from the tenet; "Nature is the mother of all arts". Jaap Hartman (Pays-Bas, 1950), sculpteur et maître bronzier néerlandais. Il trouve son inspiration dans le principe : « La nature est la mère de tous les arts ». En raison de sa façon imaginative et quelque peu surréaliste de travailler, ses sculptures respirent de drôles de pensées qui semblent s’échapper du bronze. Après 50 ans à pratiquer son art, il semble trouver encore plus de plaisir que jamais à créer ces sensations humoristiques dans des images durables qui font sourire. Les sculptures uniques de Jaap Hartman ornent les collections publiques, commerciales et privées du monde entier. Jaap Hartman (1950, Nederland) is beeldhouwer en bronsgieter. Hij volgde zijn opleiding aan de Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in Rotterdam en aan de Rijksacademie van Amsterdam.  Deze opleidingen legden de basis voor zijn artistieke ontwikkeling en zijn technisch vakmanschap. In Rotterdam kreeg hij o.a. les van Arie Teeuwissen (beeldhouwen) en Gijs Voskuyl (tekenen).  In Amsterdam waren het de gerenommeerde hoogleraren Paul Gregoire en Piet Esser die hem de principes van de beeldhouwkunst bijbrachten. Zijn figuratieve beelden laten zien dat hij trouw blijft aan de basisgedachte dat beeldhouwen werken in en met de ruimte is. Werkend van binnen naar buiten krijgt de vorm langzamerhand gestalte. Portretten zijn altijd een belangrijk onderwerp geweest voor Jaap Hartman. Ook hier is zijn werkwijze een langzaam opbouwen van binnenuit totdat hij is aangekomen bij de buitenkant, de huid.  Op dat moment heeft het beeld zijn definitieve vorm en expressie verkregen en wordt er niet meer aan geschaafd. Daarna volgt de technisch complexe fase van het maken van de mal en het gieten van het brons, het afwerken en patineren. Als bronsgieter kan Jaap Hartman dit hele proces in eigen hand houden.
