Er ontvouwt zich een wereld vol textuur en diepte, opgebouwd uit een myriade van fijne draden.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Textiel is Benk\u00f6's passie: het is een materiaal dat doordrenkt is van tijd en liefde, aards en verbonden met het menselijk leven. Weven is een krachtig symbool. Weven en web zijn termen die gebruikt worden om het leven zelf te beschrijven. Ze staan voor samenhang en verbinding. Het weefsel van de samenleving. Menselijke levens als verweven draden in het weefsel van het leven. Het proces van weven heeft parallellen met het leven zelf.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Met haar wandtapijten maakt Benk\u00f6 deel uit van een zeer oude traditie van geweven wandtapijten, de oervorm van textielkunst. Deze kostbare handgemaakte wandtapijten werden vanaf de elfde eeuw gebruikt om middeleeuwse kastelen in Noord-Europa te versieren en te isoleren. Ze werden geweven in beroemde ateliers in de Zuidelijke Nederlanden en Frankrijk. De groene landschappen van de Verdures waar Benk\u00f6 naar verwijst, ontstonden in Vlaamse ateliers vanaf de zestiende eeuw en bleven eeuwenlang populair.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Benk\u00f6 is opgeleid aan de Hongaarse kunstacademie in zowel schilderen als monumentale handgeweven wandtapijten. Voor haar bestaan wandtapijten in relatie tot schilderkunst; het een kan niet zonder het ander. Schilderen was haar basis, maar textiel bood haar meer mogelijkheden om zich uit te drukken. Textiel stelde haar in staat om in de grootste formaten te werken. De zachtheid en tactiliteit ontroerden haar; textiel transformeerde haar omgeving. Uiteindelijk koos ze ervoor om zich te specialiseren in handgeweven wandtapijten en cre\u00eberde ze veel werken voor de openbare ruimte, waarvan ze de meeste zelf weefde.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Benk\u00f6 is een kunstenaar die zich niet beperkt tot \u00e9\u00e9n medium. Ze keerde terug naar haar basis en begon weer schilderijen te maken. Daarin past ze persoonlijke onderwerpen toe: haar omgeving, de natuur, de stad en verre reizen. Het is alsof ze haar emoties rechtstreeks op het doek schildert. Levende gevoelens, uitgedrukt in kleur en textuur. Uiteindelijk zijn de schilderijen niet minder tactiel dan haar vroegere wandkleden. Meerdere lagen verf met toegevoegde textiele details geven het werk diepte en textuur.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Haar nieuwe werken in de serie Verdures zijn gebaseerd op deze schilderijen. Een paar jaar geleden kreeg Benk\u00f6 weer zin om met textiel te werken. De kunstwereld leek vrijer en er was een hernieuwde belangstelling voor textielkunst. Nieuwe technische ontwikkelingen hadden de mogelijkheden voor dit materiaal drastisch vergroot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Benk\u00f6 ziet gemechaniseerd jacquardweven als een nieuwe manier om zichzelf uit te drukken. Waar een handgeweven wandtapijt haar een heel jaar kostte om te voltooien, wordt een mechanisch geweven wandtapijt binnen een paar uur gemaakt met behulp van een digitaal aangedreven jacquardweefgetouw. Het voorwerk is het meest tijdrovende deel van het proces geworden. In deze fase wordt het originele ontwerp vertaald naar een geschikte digitale versie.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marianne Benk\u00f6 bezocht de Academie voor Toegepaste Kunst in Boedapest waar ze een graad behaalde in schilderen en wandtapijten en haar masterdiploma in kunst, gespecialiseerd in het ontwerpen van kunst voor openbare ruimten. Marianne woont en werkt nu in Nederland en re Benk\u00f6 schilderijen bevatten vaak de encaustic (was) schildertechniek. From a distance you see the total image: constructions of colour that suggest forests, trees and landscapes. From up close, the work resonates with infinite detail. A world unfolds, full of texture and depth, built up of a myriad of fine threads.  Textile is Benk\u00f6\u2019s passion: it is a material imbued with time and love, earthly and connected to human life. Weaving is a powerful symbol. Weaving and web are all terms that are used to describe life itself. They stand for cohesion and connection. The fabric of society. Human lives as interwoven threads in the fabric of life. The process of weaving has parallels to life itself.  With her tapestries Benk\u00f6 is part of a very old tradition of woven tapestries, the primal form of textile art. These costly handmade tapestries were used to decorate and isolate medieval castles in Northern Europe from on the eleventh century. They were woven in famous workshops in the Southern Netherlands and France. The green landscapes of the Verdures Benk\u00f6 refers to, emerged in Flemish workshops from on the sixteenth century and remained popular for centuries.  Benk\u00f6 was trained at the Hungarian art academy in both painting and monumental hand woven tapestries. For her, tapestries exist in relation to painting; the one can\u2019t exist without the other. Painting was her foundation, but textile offered her more opportunities to express herself. Textile allowed her to work in the largest sizes. The softness and tactility moved her; textile transformed its surroundings. Eventually she chose to specialise in hand woven tapestries and created many works for the public space, most of which she wove herself.  Benk\u00f6 is an artist that doesn\u2019t limit herself to one medium. She returned to her foundation and started making paintings again. In these she applies personal subjects: her surroundings, nature, the city and far away travels. It is as if she paints her emotions directly onto the canvas. Living feelings, expressed in colour and texture. In the end the paintings are no less tactile than her former tapestries. Multiple layers of paint with added textile details give the work depth and texture.  Her new works in the Verdures series are based on these paintings. New technical developments had drastically increased the possibilities for this material.  Benk\u00f6 sees mechanised Jacquard weaving as a new way to express herself. Where a hand woven tapestry took her a whole year to complete, a mechanically woven one is created within a few hours using a digitally driven Jacquard loom. The pre-work has become the most time consuming part of the process. In this phase the original design is translated into a suitable digital version.
